The Best SEO Competitive Analysis Tools for 2023

The first tool on this list is called seed keywords, and most keyword research tools work the same way.

The usual way Enter a seed keyword into a tool and get a list of suggestions.

The problem with this approach is that everyone writes the same keywords into these tools, no wonder most keywords are so competitive.

This is where seed keywords come in, helping you avoid this problem, rather than pulling seed keywords out of thin air.

You ask clients how to find you online, and then you use those keywords in a traditional keyword research tool.

For example, let's say you're building an online flower delivery e-commerce website.

Well, you can use seed keywords to create what is called a scenario.

You ask people how they're going to search for what you're selling, then you send that text to people, and if you're anything like me, you'll be amazed at the responses you get.

Finally, put the terms you find into your favorite keyword tool and you will find some untapped keywords that your competitors don't know about yet.

How can I monitor my competitors online?

This brings us to our second free SEO tool, SERPerator.

Now I haven't included SERPerator in this list, only because it has a name that looks like a separator.

Although that didn't hurt, nevertheless here is how this tool works.

As you might know, search results change dramatically, depending on where you are and what device you're using.

Here are some tools that help you verify your search results across different sites and devices.

All you have to do is select your device and location and you will see exactly what the results will look like to someone searching from that location, using that device.

Free online competitor and keyword analysis tools

So cool and now it's time for the third SEO tool, Exploding Topics.

You probably already know that finding new keywords is an SEO gold mine and is simple math., YouTube videos, and content, which, in general, you have to compete with.

But when you target new trending keywords, you get to it early before the search results get super competitive.

For example, a while ago I wrote a keyword-optimized post, search engine optimization back when that keyword was relatively new.

Even though this keyword didn't have a lot of searches yet, I knew Google was rolling out updates that penalize sites that were not mobile-optimized.

This means searches for that keyword were set to explode, and because I got in so early, I was able to get the top three rankings for this growing term.

Which is the order I still hold to this day, the question is, how do you find these new common terms? Well, you can use Google Trends.

But the problem with Google Trends is that you need to know what you're looking for.

In other words, Google Trends is great for confirming trends on a keyword you already know, but it's not useful for coming up with a trend and new topics.

Enter Explosive Topics, With Explosive Topics, you get a list of new trending keywords presented to you on a silver platter.

The tool has a database of popular topics across many different industries, including health and fitness, marketing, and fashion
consumer products and more.

What is an LSI graph?

Go ahead the next free SEO tool is called LSI Graph, you may have heard of LSI keywords before.

They are basic words and phrases that closely relate to your main keyword, when you include these terms in your content, Google sees your content as inclusive.

That can give you a nice little ranking boost. For example, let's say your target keyword is "star wars".

LSI words for "Star Wars" would be things like Luke Skywalker, the Jedi, Princess Leia, and the Millennium Falcon.

So, how do you find LSI keywords? A very cool free tool called LSI Graph.

Just enter your target keyword into the tool and you will get a list of LSI keywords that you can sprinkle into your content.

tube buddy keyword explorer free

Great, though, time for the fifth tool TubeBuddy, TubeBuddy is a free Chrome extension that helps you optimize YouTube videos for SEO.

For example, let's say you want to use some of the same tags as another video.

Well, you can use TubeBuddy to easily see those tags and use them in your video, let's say you are searching for a keyword to optimize your video.

You can use TubeBuddy to see the level of competition on the YouTube front page for that keyword.

which brings us to tool number six, Wordtracker Scout, Wordtracker Scout takes a unique approach to keyword research.

instead of entering a keyword into a tool, Wordtracker scans the page and finds keywords that come up over and over again.

This way, you can go to one of your competitors' pages and grab the keywords they are already using in their content.

You can even sort your keyword list by opportunity, which are the terms that have the best ratio of search volume and competition.

The best free tools ever, rely on them immediately

Well if you take a step back, Search Console is a feature-rich piece of SEO software.

And unlike almost every other tool on the market, the data you get comes directly from Google, so you know it's legit.

Search Console as a ranking tracker to check your site's ranking in the SERPs.

You can also use it to feel the backlink profile of your site.  Now, this isn't as good as a paid tool like Ahrefs, but it's not bad.

Last but not least, you can see all the pages your site has been indexed in Google, and if you have any technical SEO issues holding your site back.

This brings us to tool number eight, most keyword research tools get their data from the same place, Google Keyword Planner.

The audience answer is a bit different, this tool takes the questions people ask on forums, Quora, Reddit, blogs, and social media and turns those questions into great keywords.
